Mapping the Value Network 


The pages in this chapter cover detailed descriptions of the steps    

and terminology used in creating a value network map.    

Value network modeling describes the value creation dynamics for any type of organization, business unit, or business web. It can be used to visualize core business activities and processes and also the supporting activities.


The purpose of value network mapping is to identify key roles, transactions, and deliverables for an activity. The network diagram can be used as the foundation for a Value Network Analysis (VNA).


Often, the mapping activity leads to business results without continuing to a VNA. Examples are in the next chapter - Mapping Examples and Results. The map below is from is from the Technical Repair case study, in Optimizing Value Flows in the Analysis Basics chapter.
